Wee trip out to my favourite Japanese eatery last night Yatai Izakaya for some amazing food. Been coming here for years and it never disappoints. You can forget your Yo! Sushi or Wagamama, this is authentic as it gets. Having spent time in Tokyo a few years back (you may hear me mention this often, because obsessed) this genuinely feels like a little corner of Tokyo in the heart of Aberdeen. It’s got that proper backstreet Izakaya vibe to it, and with an open grill kitchen behind the bar you can watch the food being grilled in front of you. Nice decor and little touches like their own herbs being grown in house. Everything was amazing, washed down with some Kirin, some sake to complement the food, and as I always do I like to finish off with a Japanese whisky at the end, in this case Chita. If you love all things Japanese I highly recommend seeking Yatai out, though booking ahead is advisable due to its small size. If you’re interested, here’s what we ate:
Vegetable tempura sushi roll
Deep fried soft shell crab, wasabi mayo
Pork belly skewers, mustard miso
Chicken katsu & curry sauce steamed buns
Deep fried ginger & soy chicken, chilli mayo
Steam fried beef & mushroom dumplings, chilli ponzu
Deep fried spicy pork dumplings, chilli ponzu
