Unity Brewing

Another adventure in Southampton, this time to the awesome Unity Brewing. I’ve had several of their beers courtesy of my mate Rob Hoptimism but they never seen to make it further north. They’re based on an industrial estate, through one of the cities more dodgy areas, so I used my new found love of Uber to get me there in one piece rather than walking about lost after dark.
The first thing that stuck me walking in was that it was very cold. It’s a big shed. Even for a Scottish person it was cold, must have been three beers deep before I felt brave enough to unzip my jacket. Also, you’re in the middle of a working brewery. If you’re used to the polished, comfortable tap rooms such as Dogtap or Drygate, this is very different. You’re literally sat right next to the FVs.
Drinking fresh Unity at the source was awesome. I stuck to the more hop forward beers when I was there, including their latest colabs with Boxcar and Duration, which had only just dropped the night before so I was one of the first people to taste them. There was also a modest but good selection of guests available, but I stuck to the Unity stuff. Managed to grab a few fresh cans to take home with me, which is always nice.
Could’ve stayed here all night, but there was more beer to drink, and new places to see. Next stop was the quite unique Dancing Man brewery, but that’s a story for my next post!
